Tokyo Bay Watch Company

I found a watch from Tokyo Bay in a catalog over the weekend – it looked very nice so I decided to do some research.  TOKYObay was established in 1991 in San Fransisco by two friends who are also designers.  One is from Tokyo – the other from the UK and both are now in San Francisco  They call their designs a “unique fusion of Japanese minimalism and fashon-focused sensibilities.”

The watch that caught my eye in the catalog is called Terrain – see picture below

TOKYObay Terrain – MSRP $138

TOKYObay Terrain

This watch is heavy in earth tones.  The brown face with coordinating nubuck Italian leather strap is offset by the stainless steel case and buckle.  There’s some contrast stitching on the band which also adds some detail.

  •  Battery operated Japanese Miyota quartz movement
  • Tested at 3 ATM water resistance
  • Stainless steel case, case back & buckle
  • Italian leather strap
  • Mineral glass lens

This model also comes in a couple different variations:

I think the leather and color of these watches remind me of a baseball glove – or maybe the leather from a football.  If you’re a sports fan – or know one that you want to buy a gift for – this could be the watch for you.  If you’re ready to get in the game and buy one – click here.

Another TOKYObay watch that I want to share is called the Jazz.

TOKYObay Jazz – MSRP $163

TOKYObay Jazz Black

This is a classic watch that can be dressed up – or worn everyday.  The black Italian leather strap with contrast stitching is a detail that sets it apart.  I also like the orange second hand – and the small sub-dial that keeps track of the date.  The black dial with large numbers and markers just makes a great combination for this watch.  If this is the watch for you – go get one here.

  • Battery operated Japanese Miyota quartz movement for accuracy
  • Tested at 3 ATM water resistance
  • IP plated brass case, stainless steel case back & buckle
  • Italian leather band
  • Mineral glass lens

This watch also comes with a Beige dial – see below.

TOKYObay Jazz Beige

This is also a very classic looking watch.  It has a different feel than the black face – and I think it’s just a matter of personal preference.  This one still has the same dial layout – with the sub dial in contrasting black.  What I notice about this one is that the diamond shaped second marker stands out more with the black outline.  This is another great choice – and if the lighter side of beige is your choice – don’t wait you can buy one here.

That’s all I have about TOKYObay watches today – I think they have some very nice watches and I recommend that you check them out.

  1. Hi Jeff.

Very interesting how those two guys have joined their efforts in San Fransisco to build Tokyo Bay. They have really interesting watch but don’t personally like the brown and beige color. I definitely prefer the black model The one you call Jazz.

I see that it’s a little bit more expensive though. Not that much. That still the one I prefer.

    • I thought it was an interesting story – and some interesting design details on the watches also. The brown and beige is a unique combination – and not for everyone – that’s why I included the Jazz model – which I think is very nice. I’m glad you saw something you like – keep checking back for more reviews in the future.

      Thanks- Jeff

  2. The simple design of the watches is actually very elegant. I prefer watches that are not gaudy and have a classic style. I can appreciate this watch review. I like gold and chrome for watches – jewelry-like. Do you write reviews on women’s watches as well? I was once told that a nice watch is like a nice suit. Sometimes you can dress casual and wear a very nice watch and that will tell a story about who you are and what you represent.

  3. Jeff,

I kind of like the TOKYObay Jazz watch, it has a sleek and dark look to it, but I am more into bigger steel watches.

Can you tell me what are the best brands for steel watches and do you have any posts about them? I would like to know more.

    Thanks in advance!

    • Thanks for checking out my site. I would suggest you look at some of my other reviews for various different watches. I like this one a lot – it’s a steel automatic diver’s watch – classic and substantial in size – Seiko SKX007 & SKX009 Automatic Diver

      Thanks – Jeff

  4. Hey this is a really nice looking website with a lot of helpful information for people looking for watches.

I have to say, when I saw the watches I said to myself “that a nice watch” lol I guess I know why you named your website that. these really are very suave and nice looking watches and I’m very interested. Plus ive never heard of this company before.

    Thanks for the information!
