Momentum Watches

Momentum Watches by the St. Moritz Watch Corp. are a line of sports watches that you should really check out.  They have some classic dive watch styles and also some outdoor type styles.  The watches offer good waterproof performance and are definitely a good choice for someone who enjoys water activities and wants something that can be worn all the time.  Momentum watches offer some great styles that I want to review today – so let’s get started and take a look.  Click the pictures for more information.

Momentum Vortech GMT Leather – SKU 1M-SP58L2B – MSRP $295

Momentum Vortech GMT Leather       Momentum Vortech GMT Leather

Specifications

  • Swiss Made quartz movement
  • Alarm
  • GMT function
  • 44 mm case diameter
  • Titanium case
  • 100 meter (330 ft) water resistance
  • Screw down crown
  • 22mm cloud leather band

This watch looks great in both dial colors – and clean easy to read markings.  You’ll notice that the GMT (second time zone) hand is blue on the white dial and yellow on the black dial – a nice detail to set the models apart.  The alarm hand is red for both – and coordinates with the red push button that turns off the alarm.  The small sub dial at the 2 o’clock position is the second hand.

Did you see the fact that the case is titanium?  That makes for a really light watch – and the brushed finish looks great. This watch is ideal for travelling because you can keep track of a second time zone – and it has the alarm feature that can wake you up in the morning.

If you like the Momentum Vortech GMT – and want to own one – click the dial color you like – white or black.

Momentum Base Layer Leather – SKU 1M-SP76B3B – MSRP $124

Specifications

  • Japanese quartz movement
  • 44 mm case diameter
  • Offset Screw Down Crown
  • 316L stainless steel case
  • 200 meter (660 ft) water resistance
  • 22mm Perforated Italian Leather band
  • Propeller style second hand
  • Dual layer stencil dial

This watch has some really unique features.  First – the dial has 2 layers.  The white is a solid piece underneath the black part – which has the numbers cut out like stencils to allow the white to show through.  This really give the dial some depth and a different feel.  The other unique feature is the propeller second hand – see the detailed picture above.  The small propeller shape spins to count the seconds.

The offset crown (meaning the knob that adjusts the time is at 4 o’clock instead of 3 o’clock)  is another feature I like about this watch.  I’ve found that this makes a watch more comfortable to wear – the lower crown doesn’t dig into your wrist as much as a standard crown position.  The watch I wear most has an offset crown and it is very comfortable – so I think this is a great feature.

The last thing I like about this watch is the perforated leather band.  To me – perforated leather just has a nice feel to it and always reminds me of a performance car steering wheel.  It’s a high end look for this watch and goes very well with the brushed stainless steel finish.

  1. These watches are very nice and elegant! Makes me a little scared of the price of most elegant watches. How much do you think that would cost? This site has sparked an interest for me now that I’ve learned more about watches (from reading this article). Is it better to have your watch custom made for your wrist? Considering what you mentioned about the offset crown; I had watches digging into my wrist and now I don’t wear my it much anymore due to it.

    • You can spend a ton on a watch – but you don’t have to. A lot of the large luxury brands are so expensive because of the marketing expense. I’m not sure if you can get a watch custom made for your wrist – but you can look for a model with an offset crown – that will help a lot with the digging into your wrist. I would recommend that you check out some other watches to find one that’s comfortable. Let me know if you have any questions.

      Thanks- Jeff

  2. Hey Jeff,

Awesome review! I’ve been in the market for a new watch for a while now and I’ve seen this one in a few places. I really like the way it looks. It’s a very inexpensive watch but it looks otherwise. I’m not watch collector but I think this one would get some decent compliments..

Thanks for taking the time to share this information! Very valuable!

    • Thanks for the comments – I think this would be a great watch for you – there are a lot of nice watches out there at very good prices – you just have to know where to look.

  3. I really like the simple but classy faces of these watches. The extreme number of dials and hands on many higher end watches is a big turn off for me.

I notice that the Vortex uses a Swiss movement, while the Base uses Japanese quartz movement. Is there any difference in the quality of timekeeping, or is the real difference purely in the style?

    • The Vortex is a GMT movement – which explains the difference in price and also why it’s a Swiss movement vs. Japanese – as far as timekeeping they should be very similar.

      Jeff
